Ignoring the Evidence

May 26, 2024

This week we continue in Acts chapter 7 with the story of Stephen, who is now on trial before the religious leaders. Stephen makes an impassioned defense by connecting the teachings of Jesus to the history and teachings of the Jewish faith. He uses examples from the lives of Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and others to point out how God has always worked in unexpected ways and outside human control. Stephen challenges the leaders for resisting God’s Spirit and repeating the mistakes of their ancestors. Despite their hostility, Stephen prays for their forgiveness as he is stoned. Stephen's noble sacrifice in pursuit of truth challenges us today—not to put God in a box, but to allow Him to work in our lives by submitting to His will and timing.
